Dear visitors,
The Moravian-Silesian Railway Museum is going to be reopen for public on the 3rd of June. You can see the opening hours on our website. We just kindly remind you that the opening hours from June to August are on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 to 16:00 and on Saturdays and Sundays from 09:00 to 16:00.
As we must comply with the government regulations in force we must take operational measures that will limit the number of visitors in the museum. Free movement of visitors will be allowed only while maintaining the necessary hygienic conditions. The Rail Driver’s Trainer will only be in operation every full hour including a disinfection break. The kid’s corner will be fully closed and only a tour of the model railway will be accessible.
While visiting the museum you will need to follow our guidelines for measures against the spread of coronavirus.
The Railway Museum is still closed for public until the 2nd of June.
Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to your visit.
Based on a request from the Moravian-Silesian Railway Museum, The Moravian-Silesian Region approved the financial subsidy of the project called "LOCATION OF THE STEAM LOCOMOTIVE AND RECONSTRUCTION OF THE MODEL RAILWAY IN THE MUSEUM". The subject of the financial subsidy was mainly transport, location and basic repair of the steam locomotive class 310.0. The locomotive was borrowed by Czech Railways. The Kafemlejnek steam locomotive n. 310.001 from 1883 (which was transported to the museum on 16 August 2019) is located next to the Ostrava-střed station building. During this short time the rusted locomotive was repaired dignifitently thanks to the maintenance of it´s enthusiasts. Thanks to the museum´s cultural event "Fajne léto" at the end of August, the locomotive was seen by over 400 children. Work on the locomotive will continue for months and years, even if the steam locomotive is no longer in service. The project included the establishment of a rail bed on which the steam locomotive is stored. Also a track field (where the old rails and fastened nails are from 1918) was obtained within this project. Rail fasteners are no longer used on the rails for decades. It is again a historical exhibition. Within the project, the Moravian-Silesian Region also provides financial support for the partial renovation of H0-size fashion railways. This model railway yard, which is located in the museum, has been in operation for several years. During this time, the regime yard has seen 12,000 visitors. I also refurbished small portable modes of the N-size track, which can present music outside my residence at the Ostrava-střed station. The financial subsidy of the Moravian-Silesian Region fulfilled its intention, as the visually accessible steam locomotive is seen daily not only by passengers but often also by passing children accompanied by adults.
We cordially invite you to a new exhibition opened from 2nd of October 2019.
From 2nd of October you can see the new exposure of the exhibition „KOŠICKO-BOHUMÍN RAILWAY, Slezian part BOHUMÍN-MOSTY“ on the first floor of the museum. It is a significant private track that connected Uhry across Těšín and Karviná with Prussia. It has largely contributed to the development of mining and metalurgy in Ostrava and Těšín. The exhibition brings yet unpublished new facts and documents. An integral part are also interesting moments from the construction of Jablunkov bridges in Jablunkov. The exhibition will last until May 2021, when we will remember 150 years from completion of the entire section of the track from Bohumín to Košice.
The Moravian-Silesian Railway Museum also opens two new exhibition spaces from 2nd of October 2019. In one room, visitors can see the period-equipped transport office of a dispatcher from the first half of the 20th century. You will be able to see not only security equipment, but also other items that belonged to the transport office, including part of the dispatcher's uniform.
In the next room there will be an exposition of signaling equipment and objects from track, locomotive economy and other railway branches. The devices will be adapted to interactive activities, if possible. Some types of equipment are still used in railway operation. The museum will also present a model of the basket signal, which was used in the first years of the 19th century railway operation. The typical crossing bell will also have its premiere and visitors can try out its sound.
On the same day, the Moravian-Silesian Railway Museum is preparing a ceremonial performance of the steam locomotive class 310.001 (Kafemlejnek), which was imported on 16th of August 2019 and located next to the station building at Ostrava střed station. The museum performed basic cleanup during the week and thus presented it to visitors during the cultural event Fajne léto on August 24th ,2019. Over three hours, the locomotive had over 400 children. After a month of professional cleaning and repairing the appearance of Kafemlejnek, will again be ready for public viewing. Further modifications will continue without restrictions for potential visitors from the museum. Of course there will be a regular tour of the steam locomotive by passers-by or passengers through the fencing.
